THREE OF MY FAVOURITE THINGS

This collection of sculptural vessels were inspired by some of my favourite ways of being in the world: days spent at the beach, swims in the surf and walks through our beautiful bushlands. Each vessel responds to a different landscape, echoing the movement, colour and quiet rhythms of nature. Perched within each vessel is a small finch, gently stitching the surface closed. The vessels are not intended as functional objects but as contemplative ones, inviting a pause to reflect on care, repair and the sensory memories of salt air, flowing water and the dense calm of the forest.

BEACH DAYS

Beach Days draws on early family memories of time spent at Marcoola Beach. The colours reference sun‑bleached sand, shallow water and long summer light, held in the softness of recollection rather than observation. A small finch sits within the vessel, carefully stitching the surface closed, suggesting the act of holding memories gently – sealing moments of nourishment, belonging and the intimacy of shared days by the sea.

SURF SWIMS

Surf Swims responds to the physical immersion of open water and the rhythmic pull of the tide. The surface pattern echoes movement and breath, shaped by repetition and resistance rather than stillness. Perched on top, a finch quietly stitches the vessel closed, a tender counterpoint to the force of the sea – an emblem of care, recovery and the private rituals that follow surrender to delicious tumble of the surf.

BUSHWALKS

Bushwalks reflects the dense, enveloping calm of time spent walking beneath the canopy. Earthy tones and layered surfaces evoke filtered light, damp air and the slow accumulation of sound and silence. Within the vessel, a finch stitches the opening closed, suggesting protection and repair. The work invites contemplation of deep listening, shelter and the restorative quiet found in sustained attention to place.
