SONGS OF HOME
This vessel – formed from three distinct clay bodies, painted with stained slip and Sunshine Coast sea sand and woven with coloured suede cord – is a celebration of unity through diversity. It speaks to the joy of bringing together contrasting elements into a single, harmonious form.
The surface is a feast of mark-making and oxide washes. The gentle swell of the bulbous body offers a sense of groundedness and abundance, while the cord evokes connection, care and craft.
Like the sweet spotted pardalotes that chirp and chatter around the rim, this piece carries a sense of lightness and joy — a reminder that beauty lies in the small, the intricate and the handmade.
Midfire clay bodies, paperclay slip and suede cord, 2025. 35 × 25cm
