TWO SIDES
This tall ceramic vessel considers how perspective shapes what we notice and value. Three finches perch atop, two carrying bits of raffia grass, gestures of care that transform the vessel from simple form into home. One side is concave, decorated with cobalt and gold lustre surrounding a small hole holding a small nest; the other is flat and unadorned, broken only by the same piercing void. Within this opening rests a tiny nest, quietly built.
The work asks us to shift our view: from the ornate concave side, the piece reads as jewel-like and intentional; from the flat side, it feels minimal, even empty. The hole—and the nest within—links these perspectives, suggesting that meaning emerges both from attention and restraint, from what is celebrated and what is quietly sustained.
